Why Pride is important?

Pride is a significant annual event celebrated worldwide by the LGBTQ+ community. It began as a commemoration of the Stonewall Riots that occurred in 1969 at the Stonewall Inn in New York City. Over time, it has grown into a vital symbol of inclusivity, visibility, and solidarity for the community. The event usually occurs in June and is an opportunity for LGBTQ+ individuals to express themselves freely without fear of discrimination or prejudice.

Pride provides a sense of belonging and community for individuals in the LGBTQ+ community. It is a time to celebrate one’s identity, come together with like-minded individuals, and feel a sense of acceptance. Pride events serve as a means to raise awareness about the issues facing the community such as discrimination, harassment, and violence. It is an opportunity to demand equal rights and advocate for a more inclusive and accepting society.

The 2022 Pride event held in Goldendale on July 22 was a fantastic example of the importance of Pride. The event had an estimated 200 attendees, and it was filled with community, support, and connection. Kurt Ross delivered an inspiring talk that reinforced the importance of Pride and the fight for equality and acceptance. The event highlighted that even in small towns, there are people who care about the LGBTQ+ community and are willing to come together to show their support.
