Rainbow Beginnings: The Genesis of Goldendale Pride Alliance

The Goldendale Pride Alliance, an organization supporting the LGBTQIA+ community, formed following Goldendale’s successful first gay pride event in July 2021, initiated by Andy Halm. Despite initial opposition, Halm distributed mini pride flags around town, drawing support from hundreds. This inspired community members, including Kent Apostol, Sarah Bartell, Daniel Lefever, Skylar Newkirk, Kurt Ross, Gabriel Ogle, and Joshua Van Horn in partnership with Andy, to organize the first Goldendale Pride event. Hosted at Korey Geddes’s Dirty Cowgirl, the event attracted 200 attendees, including families from various regions. The successful event led to a second in July 2022, featuring a pride walk and other activities. The Goldendale Pride Alliance was then officially formed as a non-profit in August 2022 to further support the LGBTQIA+ community.
